Pinwheel Pizzas

A fun way of serving pizza, these are easy to hold and eat and perfect as party food, especially for kids.
Servings 12 Pinwheels

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose/plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • a pinch of baking powder
  • warm milk for kneading approx. 1/2 to 3/4 cup
  • grated mozzarella/cheddar cheese
  • keema filling recipe link in instructions below

Instructions

  • First, prepare the filling. I used THIS recipe.
Mix all the dry ingredients and the oil, then slowly start adding the warm milk a little at a time. Get it to a soft dough, the softer the better, knead it very well for at least 8 minutes or more if possible.
Dab a touch of oil all over the dough, then cover it and place it somewhere warm. Leave it to rise to double its size, takes about 30 minutes to an hour depending on the weather.
Once risen, punch it down, give it a quick knead and then roll it out into a rectangular shape of about quarter inch thickness. Spread your filling leaving a border of about 1 inch all around. Sprinkle a bit of cheese (mozzarella preferably) on the filling, then from one end, roll the pizza dough like you would a swiss roll, enclosing the filling inside. Now slice using a knife, tucking and adjusting any area that seems like it’s spilling out. Keep the slices at less than 2 inches, remember they will bulk up a little bit after baking.
Place the pinwheels on a greased tray and let them sit for about half an hour. Then preheat the oven at 180 C, bake for about 10 minutes. Take the tray out and sprinkle extra cheese to top each pinwheel. Bake until the cheese melts and is golden. Serve hot! 🙂

    1. For now I don’t have the step by step pics for this, but you can use this link which will give you a clear idea on how to shape the pinwheels.

      Shaping pinwheels.

    1. The filling mixture is given right at the top of the recipe. Please check.

    1. You can but the problem is the chocolate may melt and leak out and burn because it is not fully enclosed in the dough, so I would not recommend it for this recipe.

  1. asalam,
I tried this recipe, n it was amazingly good .. but I freezed some extra ones, however when i Baked it after it didnt turn out so nicely, it seemed that it didnt bake properly, the dough part looked a bit transparent seemed like it wasnt cooked well enough and didnt raise much. can you suggest somthing plz..

    thank a lot

    1. W/salaam, sounds like there was a problem with the yeast you used, try testing the yeast to see if it works well or use a different brand. 🙂

  2. thanks for your reply,
but the problem is when i bake it right away after I prepare the dough, it comes out perfect… its only after i freeze it that I get these problems 🙁

but I will try changing the yeast as well, thx 😀

  3. The same question again Fouzia, how long do I bake them on stove top? And how will I do the grilling part?fg

    1. On stove top they will take the same time as they would in an oven, remember to preheat the pot before putting them in. As for the grilling part, that will be tricky because on the stove top there is no top heat to help get a good colour.

    1. W/Salaam, thanks! I am
W/Salaam, thanks! I am concerned about the cheese content and the duration of the flight. Did you take into account the waiting period for the flight and/or delays that may happen? You could freeze them solid and then pack them into the luggage right at the very last moment before she leaves the house. That way they should be able to last the journey. 🙂

      1. thank you so mch for the
thank you so mch for the reply. yes, i did include the waiting period. so can i freeze them the way, u hav instructd, like half cook, or uncooked?

        1. Half-cook them so that they
Half-cook them so that they do not get all sticky and messy when they thaw as they would if you leave them uncooked. 🙂
