Ingredients

Ingredients for Pizza Dough

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 5 tbsp oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp instant yeast use 2 tsp. for colder climates
  • 2 pinches baking powder
  • warm milk mixed with water for kneading as needed

Ingredients for Toppings

  • 1/2 cup baked beans
  • 3 sausages cooked and sliced
  • pizza sauce recipe link given below
  • 1 egg lightly beaten with salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 ripe tomato chopped
  • 1/4 onion finely sliced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese or as needed
  • ketchup or chilli sauce as needed

Instructions

  • Here is the recipe for Pizza Sauce.
  • Prepare the Pizza Dough.
  • Mix all the dry ingredients and the oil, then slowly start adding the warm milk a little at a time.
  • Get it to a soft dough, the softer the better, knead it very well for at least 8 minutes or more if possible. Dab a touch of oil all over the dough, then cover it and place it somewhere warm. Leave it to rise to double its size, takes about 30 minutes to an hour depending on the weather.
  • Once risen, punch it down, give it a quick knead and then roll it out to about 12 inches diameter and place on your greased pizza pan/tray.
  • Again cover the tray with a light cloth/towel and let the base rest/rise slightly for about 15-20 minutes.
  • In the meantime, preheat the oven at 180 C.
  • Make small slits on the base using the tip of a sharp knife. This helps prevent the pizza base from puffing up too much.
  • Apply a thin layer of pizza sauce, then sprinkle a handful of the grated cheese. Next spread out the baked beans, chopped sausages, capsicum, onions, chopped tomatoes and carefully drizzle the beaten egg. Do not over-load the pizza as too much weight from the toppings could restrict the base from rising/cooking well during baking. Sprinkle the remainder of the shredded cheese over the toppings and then drizzle a bit of ketchup or chilli sauce for a spicy kick.
  • Bake for about 20-25 minutes or until golden and bubbly. Slice it up and serve warm! Enjoy!
