Peas & Potatoes Curry (Aloo Matar)

A quick, easy and yummy veggie curry, goes really well with rotis or chapatis or even rice! 🙂
Servings 3 people

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup peas fresh or frozen
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 3 potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 2 tomatoes blended to a puree
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • 2 green chilies chopped
  • 1/4 tsp garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander

Instructions
 

  • Heat the oil, add onions and fry until they are golden. Add the garlic paste, fry for a couple of seconds then add the tomato paste. Sprinkle the turmeric, cumin and coriander powders, and 1 of the chopped chilies. Cook for a minute on low heat, then add the pureed tomatoes and cook until all the excess moisture evaporates and the tomatoes are cooked.
    Add the cubed potatoes and peas into the mixture, stir it in and sprinkle some salt. Then add about half cup water (or more depending on how much gravy you need). Simmer on low heat until the potatoes are tender and peas are cooked through.
    Adjust salt and add the remaining chopped green chilli, garam masala and chopped coriander.
    Serve! 🙂

    what is mean by tomato paste??? if i am already using 2 tomatoes then what is mean by tomato paste.Plz let me know.

    1. W/Salaam, paste is the concentrated tomato that comes in cans or jars, sold in supermarkets or groceries and used in cooking. It adds a lot of thickness, colour and rich flavour to the foods.

    Most of ur recipe s mention garlic paste. Instead
    Can we use ginger garlic paste? N if nt.den is it ok to
    Use fine choppef garlic in place of paste.becoz making 1tsp paste
    In grinder.doesn’t com out fine paste. Plz reply

      W/Salaam, if a recipe requires both ginger and garlic then you can use ginger garlic paste. Otherwise just crush or very finely chop the garlic and use.
