Creamy Lemony Shrimp Scampi Pasta

This creamy shrimp in pasta meal is hands-down one of my favourite pasta dishes. On the plus side, it is very easy to make!

Ingredients

  • 500 gm prawns shelled and de-veined (marinate the cleaned prawns in the following ingredients for at least 30 minutes)
  • 2 lemons juiced and zested
  • 1 tsp red chilli flakes or powder
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • freshly ground black pepper

Other Ingredients

  • 500 gm pasta of choice
  • 1 onion chopped finely
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp plain/all purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp sour cream optional
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 2 green chillies chopped (if you can't take too much spice, omit this)
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Heat a pan/skillet and add a bit of oil, then fry the shrimp for about 3 minutes on each side, remove n set aside. Do this in batches so the prawns/shrimp cook evenly and quickly to prevent them from overcooking.
    In the meantime, boil your pasta and drain.
    In the pan you used for frying the prawns/shrimp, add the butter and when melted, fry the chopped onions until soft. Add the flour and cook for a couple of minutes then add a bit of salt and pepper, garam masala. Then slowly add in the milk whilst whisking to make sure you have a smooth sauce. When it thickens slightly, add the coriander n chopped chilli, followed by the shrimp.
    Cook together for a couple of minutes, add milk if you like a lighter cream (remember that the cream will thicken slightly as it cools so adjust according to your preference). Adjust salt n pepper according to taste
    Now either mix the pasta into the creamy shrimp and serve immediately or you can serve the pasta with the shrimp on the side. Best served immediately! Enjoy!!

Notes

You can substitute the shrimp/prawns with finely chopped chicken fillet.

  1. W/Salaam, thanks! It’s a type of pasta, like spaghetti but flatter. You can use regular spaghetti instead.

  2. I tried this recipe and it was delicious 🙂 However, I found that it needed two cups of milk or else the sauce was too gloopy. Two cups was just enough to make a sauce with a good consistency.

    1. Butter is a crucial ingredient for this recipe as it enhances the flavour. You can use oil in it’s place if you want.

  3. Hey , but you didn’t say what to do with the garlic paste and lemon juice. Do i have to marinate the shrimp with it ?

    1. Yes I did, please read through the recipe again. They are used in the marination.
