Mini Pizzas

Cute miniature pizzas, ideal for picnics, parties or for little hands.
Servings 12

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose/plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • a pinch of baking powder
  • warm milk for kneading approx. 1/2 to 3/4 cup

Instructions

  • First, prepare the pizza sauce and toppings using these recipes:
    Pizza Sauce
Pizza Toppings or Spicy Chicken Topping
    Next, prepare the Pizza Dough
Mix all the dry ingredients and the oil, then slowly start adding the warm milk a little at a time. Get it to a soft dough, the softer the better, knead it very well for at least 8 minutes or more if possible.
Dab a touch of oil all over the dough, then cover it and place it somewhere warm. Leave it to rise to double its size, takes about 30 minutes to an hour depending on the weather.
Once risen, punch it down, give it a quick knead and then divide the dough into 6 or 8 equal balls. Roll out each ball and place on your greased baking tray. Again cover the tray and let the bases rise slightly for about 15 minutes.
Now, using the tip of a sharp knife, make small slits here and there all over the base. This helps make sure that the base rises evenly so you won't have awkward looking bubbles all over your pizza!
Apply your pizza sauce, followed by the topping of your choice and then some cheese. Bake at 180 C (in a pre-heated oven) for about 10-15 minutes, or until you see that they are done and the cheese is beautifully melted.
    Tips:
Alternatively, you can bake the bases without any topping for about 8 minutes, just until they are somewhat solid, then lay them out to cool and put them in a freezer bag to freeze until whenever you need to make a quick pizza, whereby all you will need to do is place your half-cooked base, add the toppings and bake!

  1. Dear Fauzia, any tips on how to make pizza in a microwave? Mine usually causes the base to burn.
    Thanks!

    1. Hi! I personally am not a fan of baking using the microwave so cannot be sure on what to suggest there, sorry!

  2. salaam fauzia..can i mix the yeast and sugar in warm water before mixing it into the flour?

    1. W/Salaam, if you are using Instant Yeast there is no need for that. However if you are using Active Dry yeast, then increase the amount by a quarter or half tsp and then proceed with mixing the yeast first in sugar and warm water, let it froth/get activated, then add it to the flour.

      1. salamz Fauzia, i love ur things,i have planned to make mini pizzas today and wanted to ask that is it ok that i make the dough i the morning and bake it in the evening before iftari?……..

  3. made this today ….when pizza was ready to bake…i just switched on the oven.. for some electrical error my oven didn’t work…. i got really upset while thinking my whole work spoiled !! then i put the pizzas on a pan and put the pan on a tava.and fully covered it.. believe me..the result was more fabulous than oven…!! soft and yummmyyy…!! 😀

  7. i made it,,bt the outcome was nt tht gud..:( wen the baking was complted i turned off the knob bt didnt put the baking try out bcoz i wantd them to keep warm till serving time..wen it cooldown it became like a rubber(the dough) help me plz wht cud b wrong?

    1. Next time take the pizzas out of the oven after baking. Even though the knob was turned off, the oven was still very very hot and the pizza kept on baking in that heat, thus turnin hard. You can always warm them up before serving rather than let them over bake.

    1. W/Salaam, no those two should not be substituted. If you don’t have baking powder you can omit it in this recipe.

  8. hi fauzia, please do you have any ingridients that the pizza you will bake next time with peperoni

  9. salams fauzia.
when u indicate instant yeast in your recipes is it fresh yeast from the bakery counter in the supermarket or yeast from a sachet.
    jzk

  10. W/Salaam, as mentioned in the recipe, it is INSTANT yeast. That is a type of dry yeast. 🙂

  11. what is the difference between tomato paste and tomato puree.can you use tomato puree instead of tomato paste.

      1. thanks for replying… wat i meant was how do get th meat to such a paste like conccistency…do v just cook th meat and then grind it in th mixi to make a paste?

        1. You can get the mince grinded from the butcher. Please check my Fillings/Toppings folder for recipes.

  14. My base was very hard and thin and I only managed to get 4 bases out of my dough where did I go wrong :((

    1. Did you measure out the flour and other ingredients accurately? It would be impossible to get just 4 bases, how big were they??

  15. The most delicious pizza ever!! I am freezing a few bases do I need to defrost them when cooking or can i cook straight from frozen? JazakAllah for yet another mouth watering recipe !!! Xxx

    1. Thanks for the awesome feedback! Yes you can cook them straight from frozen. I prefer half-baking the bases before freezing, just to get them a bit solid so they hold their shapes properly later on. Do not colour them during baking, just a few minutes until they are solid and can be cooled and stored. 🙂

W/Salaam, did you cover the pan containing the sauce as it was cooling? Could be some steam formed in there. Next time that happens, just stick a clean kitchen tissue paper and allow it to soak the excess water. 🙂
