Crispy Croutons

These yummy crispy crunchy little tidbits are fantastic!! I sometimes add them to my salads for a crispy texture, or to my soup as an added treat! But best of all, these delightful tidbits can be snacked on just as they are, waaaaaaaay better than popcorn!!
The beauty of them is that you don’t need too many ingredients, you can just make use of any old stale bread you have lying around. Any bread will do, the crustier the better!!

Ingredients

  • 4-5 slices stale bread it should not be very fresh, a day old or more is good
  • salted butter
  • black pepper powder

Instructions

  • You can either butter the slices of bread on one side, or if you like them extra golden and buttery, apply on both sides. (you can do one side, it’s good enough) then sprinkle pepper on the slice and if you’re using unsalted butter add a tiny bit of salt. Then cube them, I use my kitchen scissors for this to get neater cubes.
Now heat a pan, and then lower the heat and put the bread cubes in. Keep tossing them around every few minutes with a wooden spoon to make sure all the sides are browning. It should take a few minutes.
If you want them extra crispy, spread them out on a tray and bake for about 5-10 minutes on low heat, just keep an eye on them so they don’t burn!
    Enjoy your delicious hot croutons!
