Home-Made Breadcrumbs
I've been asked several times how to make breadcrumbs at home. It's very easy…and nothing beats home-made for its freshness and of course healthier results!
Ingredients
- bread slices as required
- dry herbs optional
Instructions
- Take bread slices, as many as you have to spare. They can be white or brown bread, whatever you have at home, preferably a day old. Stick them in a toaster, and toast until they start turning a light golden colour on both sides. Remove from the toaster and place them on a rack to cool and continue to let them get crispy. Once cooled completely, break up the toasted slices and process them into fine crumbs. That's it! If you want you can add DRY herbs of your choice or chilli flakes, pepper, etc. into the breadcrumbs just to add extra flavour. Store in either an airtight container in the refrigerator or freeze in a ziploc bag. The crumbs should last about 2 weeks in the fridge, or more in the freezer. Avoid getting any moisture in the breadcrumbs as that will spoil them very quickly. As long as they stay dry and well packed, they last ages and taste fantastic. Enjoy!
hello fauzia-
can we toast them in an oven if we don’t have a toaster?
Yes of course. 🙂

another easy way to make breadcrumbs is place the bread in a processor preferably stale bread and blitz until its turned into crumbs. place in a tray and add a bit of food colour if you want and leave to dry out in the sun or toast in the oven till crispy. if the crumbs are too big pass through a sieve 🙂
