Baked Fish Fillets

Slightly spicy, succulent and tangy fish fillets that are also very healthy!
Servings 4 people

Ingredients

  • 4 fish fillets I used kingfish but you can use hammour or tilapia or salmon…any fish fillet that you prefer
  • 3 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1-2 tsp salt
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 tsp garlic paste
  • pinch of turmeric powder
  • pinch of tandoori masala optional
  • 1-2 tbsp oil or melted butter

Instructions

  • Mix the salt, red chilli powder, turmeric, tandoori masala, garlic and the lemon juice to form a paste. Rub this paste on the fillets, then put them in a bowl and cover with cling film. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, preferably overnight.
Remove the fillets and brush them with the oil or melted butter on both sides, then lay them on a lightly greased baking tray. Pre-heat the oven at 200 C then bake for about 15 minutes or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
Remove and serve immediately with accompaniments of your choice!
    Enjoy!

    1. W/Salaam, thank you! Ginger and garlic pastes are basically grinded ginger or garlic. You can use them freshly peeled and mashed or grinded.

    1. W/Salaam and thank you! Yes you can do that, although I have personally not tried it so not sure on how the flavour would be. If you like the taste of coconut oil then it should be fine.

W/Salaam. Sounds like you put the fish in an oven that was not searing hot. The oven needs to be very very hot when the fish goes in to immediately seal the outside of the fish so any moisture is retained inside. If the oven is not hot, the fish oozes out all the moisture resulting in a dry fish.

The fish was not dry but there was a lot of water remaining in the baking dish. Also I tried it with a fish having a soft/tender flesh. So should I preheat the oven at 200 C for 15 mins. Next time I will try with fish not having a tender flesh.

    Thanks
