Popcorn Prawns

Crispy and UTTERLY delicious…this yummy dish goes beautifully with fries and a dip.
Servings 3 people

Ingredients
  

Ingredients

  • 250 gm prawns
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika powder
  • a pinch of tandoori masala
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp garlic paste
  • 1 tsp oil

Extra Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • a pinch of black pepper
  • 1 egg beaten 1 tsp water

Instructions
 

  • First, marinate the prawns for half an hour in the ingredients mentioned in the first ingredients list.
    One at a time, roll the prawns in the flour, then dip them in the egg, then roll them once more in the flour with a gentle hand. This normally can get messy but once you get going, it doesn’t take long. Finish dipping and rolling all the prawns and set them on a tray or plate.
    Heat oil in a pan, then deep fry them in batches at medium heat until golden and crispy. Do not over-fry as prawns harden if over-cooked.
    Drain on tissues/kitchen towels. Serve with fries and a dip!! 🙂
    Prepare 2 plates, one with the self-rising flour, salt and pepper and the other plate with the beaten egg.

  1. Hi Fauzia di am ur great fan….I am in totally love with ur recipes….. We don’t get paprika powder in chennai ( India ) ,what can be done for that?

    1. Hi and thank you Sandy! You can use red chilli powder with some red food colouring. Adjust spice to your taste as most paprika powders are very mild whereas chilli powder could be hotter in taste.

    1. W/Salaam, make sure to coat
      W/Salaam, make sure to coat them well and then place them on a plate to rest for a few minutes just to make sure the coating sticks before frying. That should help.

    Slm Fauzia, great recipes Mashallah!! Just wanted to ask I want to try this recipe with chicken rather then prawns, would that be ok?
    Also, would I be able to bake the popcorn chicken rather ten deep fry please? Would appreciate a quick response as I’ve got the chicken ready in the fridge. Jzk so much x

      W/Salaam, yes that is fine. And yes you can bake them but the results are better when fried. 🙂
