Bbq'd Boneless Tandoori Chicken

Tender morsels of barbequed chicken, these go well with fries, pita bread and chutneys or dips of your choice.
Servings 5 people

Ingredients

  • 1 kg boneless chicken breast cut into even sized cubes
  • 2 tsp. chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp. ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp. garlic paste
  • 2 tsp. tandoori masala
  • 1 tsp. turmeric powder
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 4 tbsp. yoghurt
  • pinch of red or orange coloring
  • salt to taste approx. 2 tsp.

Instructions

  • Marinate the chicken cubes in all the above ingredients preferably overnight or for at least 4 hours. Skewer them and grill until tender. You can dab a bit of oil on the pieces as they grill. Do not over-cook them, they should be ready within 10-15 minutes. Make sure you turn the skewers several times during the grilling.
    Serve hot and enjoy!

  1. Asalaamalikum, which grill are u recommending for this ? a barbq grill or can the grill inside the oven (top) can be used too… wat abt pan frying and then giving them smoke? will the taste be very different?

    1. W/Salaam Samreen, I prefer a bbq grill but yes you can use the oven grill or pan-fry them and give them a smoke. The taste will still be awesome. 🙂

  2. I tried this out and it turned out very good, my kids luved it.. My two year old said “yummy”… Thank you Fauzia…

  3. Made it last night with slight variation, turned out delicious. I used more yoghurt and kept it on heat in a non stick pan for 10-15mins until all the yoghurt was dry. Served with paratha, salad and dip.
    Thanks 🙂

    Assalaamu Alaykum,
If cooking on stove top, should we cover and leave to cook on low heat or should we cook it uncovered on high heat?
    Thanks a lot

  5. Assalamu’alaikum wa
Assalamu’alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. Can I omit turmeric powder please? Will it make any difference?

    1. W/Salaam, turmeric adds some
W/Salaam, turmeric adds some colour and a light flavour but you can omit if you want.
