Bread Pizza

A quick and easy version of mini-pizzas, where the base is actually a slice of bread! Couldn't get simpler, especially when you want a yummy treat for your family and don't have the time or energy to knead the dough from scratch.

Ingredients

  • bread slices you can use whole-wheat/brown bread, or plain white bread
  • pizza sauce recipe link below
  • toppings suggestions below
  • mozzarella & cheddar cheese grated

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven at 170 C.
Lay out your bread slices on a baking tray. Apply a thin layer of pizza sauce on each slice. Recipe of sauce here: Pizza Sauce
Sprinkle a little bit of cheese on top of the pizza sauce. I used mozzarella. This helps the topping to 'grip' to the base, so you won't have topping that falls off your pizza.
Then add whatever topping you like on the slices. I used this one: Spicy Chicken Filling
You can include additional toppings if you like, I added slices of onion, some extra capsicum strips, sweet corn, pineapple chunks.
Finally, sprinkle some more cheese and drizzle a little bit of ketchup on top.
Bake until the cheese is melted. Remember, the bread is already cooked, so they don't need to bake too long. It should take around 10 minutes or so, keep an eye on them and get them out when the cheese is all melted and slightly golden.
Let them cool slightly on a rack so the bases stay nice and crisp.
    Enjoy your quickie pizza-fix!

Notes

I mostly use my oven toaster to make these quick pizzas, saves on a lot of energy as opposed to baking them in an oven.

    1. W/Salaam. Sorry but am not a fan of using the microwave for cooking/baking as it is not very healthy to do that. If you have baked before in your microwave then yes you can. Have you tried baking on the stove top? 🙂

      1. No I did not mean the brand of cheese you used, I wouldn’t know what brands are available in your country. I mean the type of cheese, like was it mozzarella, cheddar, etc? Which kind of cheese was it?

    1. Hi, thanks. Keep the heat low and the pan covered until the bread is toasted and the cheese melts. It may not brown due to no heat from the top, but it will still taste great. 🙂

I made it with chicken this time and the filling was very tasty. I will try with mushroom next time to see how the lemon – musroom combination tastes like without any chicken. Thanks.

W/Salaam, I always prefer an electric oven with a gas stove-top. Baking turns out best in electric ovens whilst pot/pan cooking always is easier on a gas burner. Make sure the brand of oven you select is one that has warranty and is recognised, a good investment in a good oven could save you decades of agony as opposed to buying a cheaper make and having to replace it within a few years. Make sure you get a fan-assisted oven, speeds up baking and makes sure heat is evenly distributed in the oven. Also, check that the oven has a grill/broiler, this will be handy for browning the tops of such things as buns/cakes/naans etc. Get a spacious oven that can take at least 2 eight inch cake pans side by side with about 1 inch space all around. All the best! 🙂
