Servings : Serves 4-5
The most tender, most delicious fillet steak cuts, and my hubby’s absolute favourite meal. I normally serve it with a pepper steak sauce which adds amazing flavour and spice to the meal. Our favourite ‘special weekend’ dinner!! 🙂
Ingredients for Marinade
- 1 kg fillet steak, cut into slices (get the tenderest cuts of meat) - Make small cuts on the fillet slices. Make a paste of the ingredients below and rub on both sides of the steak. Cover & refrigerate for 4 hrs to overnight
- 1 tbsp. ginger paste
- 1 tbsp. garlic paste
- juice of 1 lemon
- 2 tbsp. yoghurt
- 2 tsp. red chilli powder
- 1 tbsp. roughly crushed black pepper
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tbsp. melted butter
- 1/2 tsp. cumin powder
Ingredients for Pepper Sauce
- 1 onion, chopped fine
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 1 tsp. vinegar
- splash of soya sauce or any steak sauce (like A1, Worcestershire, HP sauce..etc.)
- 1 tsp. corn flour mixed in a bit of water to form a paste
- water (you can use the stock remaining from boiling steak)
- salt to taste
- 2 tbsp. cream (optional)
- 1 tbsp. crushed black pepper
Instructions
For the Steak
Mix everything into a paste, then apply on the steak slices on both sides. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
Put the steak in a pressure cooker with 1 cup of water and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until tender. Remove and set aside. Heat 2 tbsp. of butter on a frying pan, then fry the steak on both sides just to give it a nice color.
If any water remained after boiling the steak, set it aside to be used in the sauce.
For the Sauce
Heat the butter in the same pan as you fried the steak, fry the onions until almost golden. Add the vinegar and scrape any meat stuck on the pan. Add the water and salt, simmer together for a while. Add the corn flour and stir until slightly thickened, then finally add the cream. Mix together, add the black pepper, splash of soya sauce or any steak sauce, adjust salt and your sauce is ready to serve

Tendercuts like fillet work for this recipe.

I tried this recipie last night. My husband loved it. Jazakallah fauzia!
What kind of cream can i use, heavy cream or half and half or sour?
Use fresh/cooking cream, otherwise you can dilute heavy cream with some milk and use that instead.
Salaams. Can I use a slow cooker or the oven to cook the steaks? Or does it have to be a pressure cooker? If so, how long should it be cooked for? Thanks 🙂
W/Salaam, you can use a slow cooker or oven, although pressure cooker retains moisture in the meat giving a more succulent steak.
Asalam aleykum fauzia, am a huge fan of steaks n so is ma hubby, bt used 2make it differently n I would like to try ur way….so can i use rump steak for this recipe and do I have to boil it like da other fillets..thnx
W/Salaam, rump steak is a bit tougher than fillet. So yes you would need to boil it.
Thnx 4ur reply fauzia bt wen rump steak is cut into thinly sliced fillets I think bcmes soft just by grillin.
Wonderful, then you can omit the boiling if they are thinly cut. 🙂

Hi and thanks!! Normally this serves 4-5 people. So depending on what else you make on the side, I think 5 kg is safe. Do it in batches to make sure the results are consistent. 🙂

Asalaamualeikum Fauzia.
Asalaamualeikum Fauzia.
I stumbled upon your website and found your recipies to be very easy and helpful. I tried this nyama recipe last week and it was absolutely fantastic. I must admit I was a bit skeptical about the masalas when boiling, and once i boiled and tasted it didnt taste very good but when I made the sauce and poured it over the steak and served with fried, it was so yummy. Thank you sooo much. We’re fasting today, so once again I’m browsing to see something special for iftari and for Idd tomorrow. Shukhran.
Salaam, I just wanted to ask
Salaam, I just wanted to ask u exactly what kind of meat is this. We tend to eat lamb here and not beef, so I wanted to ask u what shud i ask the butcher for. Also, is it white or brown vinegar u used in this recipe. Thanks.
W/Salaam, for lamb any good
W/Salaam, for lamb any good clean boneless cut will be good because lamb tends to be more tender than beef. Any vinegar will work here. 🙂
