Mince & Potato Croquettes

This is a very simple and delicious snack.
Servings 25 people

Ingredients
  

  • 500 gm white potatoes boiled and peeled then mashed whilst still warm for best results
  • 1 cup cooked keema/mince - recipe link in instructions
  • salt to taste
  • chilli powder to taste
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 tbsp. chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tsp water
  • 1 tbsp. gram flour besan/chickpea flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions
 

  • Boil, peel and mash the potatoes then add about a cup of cooked keema, some lemon, a bit of salt and chilli powder and a little chopped coriander. And your mixture is ready!

    Shape the mixture into cylindrical logs, refrigerate until firm for a few hours, then sprinkle them with a bit of gram flour/besan….dip in egg and then coat with breadcrumbs, and fry until golden! Blot well and serve hot with any dip or chutney of your preference.

  1. SOunds interestng…can u tell me y is besan used for dis? i have never heard of rolls being rolled in besan before…just being curious..

  2. Yes it is a type of flour made from chickpeas, pale yellow in colour. Should be available at most supermarkets.

    1. Not sure what you mean by potato wrapping? Normally the potato is mixed with the mince…

    making these right now, filling tastes yummy. Besan is a terminology used amoungst the asian community its ‘Gram Flour’ it will be found in virtually all the shops.. dont look for besan, as you wont find it.. its called gram flour.

  6. Can we freeze these ? If yes,
    Can we freeze these ? If yes, then should we do the breadcrumbs and egg thing and then freeze ? Or just freeze as it is and then do breadcrumbs and egg once removed from freezer. Plz let me know. Thank you

    1. I normally avoid freezing
      I normally avoid freezing potato dishes as they tend to release water as they thaw. However if you absolutely must freeze then dip them in egg and breadcrumbs before freezing so that you can fry them straight from the freezer into the hot oil without allowing them to thaw first.
