Servings : approx 15 rolls
These pretty rolls are guaranteed to be a hit, they look so pretty it’s almost a shame to eat them! But they don’t just LOOK good they taste amazing too!! Soft buns with a delicious filling, I have used my Creamy Chicken Filling for these, but you can use any filling of your choice. Even crumbled feta and spinach works beautifully!
For a cheesy version, check out my Pizza Roses recipe.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose/plain flour
- 1 tbsp instant yeast
- 2 tbsp powdered milk (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp oil
- 1 egg (plus one for glazing)
- 1 tsp castor/grinded sugar
- 1/4 tsp baking powder (to reduce any yeasty smell)
Instructions
First, prepare your filling of choice. Creamy Chicken Filling
Next, prepare the dough. I have used the Chicken Bread dough
In a bowl mix the following ingredients together: 4 cups flour, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. castor sugar, 2 tbsp. milk powder, 1 tbsp. yeast, 1/4 tsp baking powder, 4 tbsp. oil and 1 egg, knead to a medium soft dough with slightly warm water, leave to rise for 1 hour. Divide the dough into 15-16 sections and shape them into neat balls.
Now you can start shaping the Roses. Roll out each ball to about 4″ diameter. Brush a bit of butter on the circle of dough. Make 4 diagonal slits, leaving the center intact. Add your filling in the center. Take one of the sections and cover the side of the filling with it. Take the opposite side’s section and cover the other side of the filling with it. Repeat with the two last sections, pinching the dough on the side to seal it. Repeat until all rose-rolls are ready.
For step by step instructions, please click HERE.
Place the prepared rolls on a greased tray. Pre-heat your oven to 180 C. Brush each rose gently with egg yolk mixed with a tsp. of milk. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until tops are golden and rolls are ready.
Remove and brush them with melted butter. Keep them covered until time of serving so they stay soft.
These can be served as is, with a chutney of choice, or as an accompaniment with any meal or soup.
Enjoy! 🙂
Salaams Fauzia, these look so good.. such that i was tempted to cook them!!!! and, am making them!!!! will post the pictures to you on facebook, InshAllah!!!!!
by plain flour u mean the chakki ataa which comes to our house???or white flour?? or maida??
Plain flour is maida.
Sister, is yeast a must? What if we can’t get hold of yeast?
Unfortunately YES for this recipe yeast is imperative. Nothing can substitute it!
Asalamualikum wr wb wm..is thr any way in which we can cook the rose rolls in Micro wave Oven.i have a microwave oven and a gas stove oven but not the conventional oven..can u please guide to cook these rose rolls in either of the above way..waiting for your reply
W/Salaam, I personally have never used microwaves for baking/cooking as I don’t believe that long-duration cooking in them is healthy, however for the gas stove oven I would assume the same temp and time should be fine. Have you ever baked in it before, and if so, what time and temperature do you normally use for say a cake? If you have then I can be in a better position to estimate based on your response.
Asalam aleikum,
how are you.I made the rose rolls last week with a mince meat filling and it turned out great.i want to make them with the feta and spinach filling.could you please tell me how to make that.
thanks
W/Salaam, use this recipe of spinach filling, add crumbled feta cheese in it to the amount of your preference. Spinach Filling
Salams Fauzia! I got a chance to make these rolls yesterday and they turned out to be a super hit with my family, Alhamdulillah! I made 2 batches (using active dry yeast which was first activated in some warm water and sugar), one using the exact same ingredients as you posted, and one without the egg and milk powder for my son who has allergies to egg and milk-and both batches turned out great! Thank you once again for your inspirational recipes!
Oh and I also made your creamy chicken filling for these rolls, which was soooo tasty! For my son who is allergic to milk, I substituted the milk in the filling with chicken yukhni (stock) that I made when boiling the chicken and this also turned out very delicious, Alhamdulillah! 🙂
dear sister, pls let me know approximately how many grams will 1 cup of flour weigh?
Hi! Please refer to this note for my measurement conversions: My Measurements
salam fauzia
i have tried your rose rolls recipe that was great…
thanks for such a beautiful and delisious recipe
AOA. These look lovely, but I need to ask something- do we need to let the rolls rise after shaping them, or do we bake them directly after glazing?
W/Salaam, no need to let them rise again. Just shape and bake.
Assalamalaikum. I did’nt find instant yeast anywhere at my locality. I just have dry active yeast. all I know is dry active yeast has to be soaked in warm water before using. can you please guide me through this. would be very grateful to you. thanks 🙂 hoping an early reply from you.
W/Salaam, please read this note: Yeast
Hi. I want to try these out, however, four cups flour is too much for an experiment. I’d like to try it with only one cup. But there is just one egg, which i can’t split like the rest of the ingredients. Can I omit the egg altogether or is there a substitute?
Hi, you can omit the egg.
Thanx a lot! Excellent stuff!
thanks a ton, Fauzia. love you lots. God bless.
aoa I love ur recipes I sure will try them thanx for giving us to learn and enjoy such good recipes may Allah bless u and give u strength aamin
Salaam… I want to try your rose and pizza rolls. Do ou think I can us ready made pastry puff sheets? I do make triangles stuffed with mince meat stuffing.
W/Salaam, yes that is fine.
I recently started visiting your website and i really liked it. i want to try this rose rolls but i have a doubt can i cook it in a convention oven. the problem with my oven is it doesnt have grill down. only on all 3 sides. so should i turn the rose upside down once it gets cooked on the top. kindly help. i amplanning to make it tomorwo.
Thanks dear. Try baking them for about 15-17 minutes, then check if they need to be turned over to do the other side.
Slm Sis, these look like very tasty snacks, just want to know can they be frozen? and if so how long can they be left for? I usually make a similar snack using puff pastry which lasts awhile.
W/Salaam. Yes you can. Please refer to my note on how to freeze breads: Freezing Breads
Salaam, I tried this recipe but the rolls was raw inside. Also the dough did not rise after 1 hr. Should I keep more time? Can I use active dried yeast? For 2 cups flour, how much active dried yeast should I use?
W/Salaam, please read this note : Yeast
asalam alaikum.
should i bake in convention or without
W/Salaam, either is ok.
