There are hundreds and thousands of yummy food names and spices!
Although we obviously cannot translate all of them, we have however tried to cover the translations of some of the more common ones and shall keep adding more to this list as we go along.
With respect to various dialects, please keep in mind that some words may be pronounced differently. 🙂

Confused
I had to comment on something that’s made me scratch my head a couple of times!
I’ve come across several of your replies to curious queries about your links to the Indian Subcontinent, and every one of your reply seemed to vehemently deny any link whatsoever. Having read way too many queries and replies here and elsewhere I have to ask you this – Obviously your posts and choice of words are confusing readers enough to wonder if you an Urdu/Hindi speaker or of such ethnicity, if you aren’t, why is then there such a liberal use of Urdu in all your posts including the entire glossary above? I’m really curious! Love for the language maybe?
Another thing I’ve always wanted to ask is this, I remember reading that this website is run by two different Fauzia’s, how come I never see posts except those signed by Fauzia M. Afif? Am I wrong or am I missing something?
Hope you’ll lay my mind to rest and keep those recipes coming ;))

Hello, thank you for your
Hello, thank you for your comment. You are right, I am not from the Indian Subcontinent and do not speak or understand any indian language. I am Arab, originally from Yemen…married to an Asian of E/African origins and have come to love and enjoy Indian/desi cooking through my inlaws. My partner and friend is Fozia (spelled a bit differently from mine). She is of Pakistani origins and speaks the language. The creation of recipes and correspondence with fans on FKF is done entirely by me (Fauzia). My partner (Fozia) handles the back-end/behind the scenes side of things like advertising, sales, technical work with the website and our business..etc. She is the one who compiled the Index. Hopefully this will help put your mind to rest. 🙂
