Tuna Melt Sandwich

Creamy, buttery and cheesy! This is one fabulously satisfying sandwich. What’s even better is that it is so easy to put together!
Servings 2 Sandwiches

Ingredients
  

  • 1 can tuna drained (200 gm)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp. chopped fresh coriander
  • 1 tbsp. finely chopped onion
  • pinch of sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper powder
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 1 chopped red chilli
  • 1 small onion sliced thin
  • 1 tomato sliced thin (optional)
  • 4 slices of bread your choice
  • 2 slices of cheddar cheese
  • butter for grilling

Instructions
 

  • Add the mayo, finely chopped onion, coriander, chilli, sugar, salt, pepper and lemon juice to the drained tuna in a bowl. Mix it up, give it a taste and adjust to your preference. Then cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
    In the meantime, heat 2 tsp. oil in a pan and sauté the sliced onions with a pinch of salt until golden brown.
    Now time to put your tuna melt together. First, butter up the outer sides of your bread slices. This makes sure you have that lovely crisp and golden delicious crust.
    Next, spread a generous amount of the tuna mixture on a slice of bread, then top with some of the fried onions and a couple of tomato slices. Place the cheese slice over it and cover with the second slice of bread to close up your sandwich. Repeat with the second sandwich.
    Heat a pan and grill over medium heat. Not too hot or else your bread will burn before the cheese has time to melt properly. It takes about 2 minutes per side to get your tuna melt to that perfect stage.
    Take the sandwich off the heat and place it on a rack to cool slightly – the cheese will continue melting a little more. Now slice each sandwich diagonally and serve!

    ,I don’t get u when u said heat a pan nd grill on them, Can I grill in oven?

    1. Grill it means use a grill
      Grill it means use a grill pan, the one with marks on it. You can even just use a frying pan. You don’t need to do it in the oven, on the stove is fine.

    I would like to know which canned tuna to be used the one in sunflower oil or in water.I would like to know which brand you used in your recipe.I made this sandwich.it was tasty but i ate tuna for the first time …smell of tuna in sunflower oil didn’t appeal to me..that’s why i want to know which one u used.

      W/Salaam, I use the one in sunflower oil, and one of the more recent brands that I’ve used is known as Hilwa.

    Assalaamualaikum….we dont hav to cook after adding tuna??? Will it not giv a raw smell or taste??? And also i dont hav a pan wid grilling marks on it can i grill dis in a sandwhich maker?? Awaiting for your reply…

      W/Salaam, canned tuna is already cooked, not raw. You can use a sandwich maker.

    1. W/Salaam, I have not tried that substitution but should be fine if you enjoy canned sardines.
