Yemeni Lemonade

This is sold almost on all street-corners in Aden (Yemen). Vendors with their carts fix this icy cold lemonade fresh as you wait! I’ve honestly never tasted better or more refreshing lemonade anywhere in the world!
Servings 2 people

Ingredients

  • 2 small green limes cut them lengthwise into 4 pieces and put them in a blender
  • 500 ml cold flaky icy water...even some ice cubes mixed in is fine
  • 1 tsp. milk powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 4-5 tbsp. sugar

Instructions

  • Blend together for not more than a minute, if you blend too long it will get bitter….then sieve all the gunk out, taste if sugar is ok, add ice cubes n serve fresh!

Notes

Be sure not to over blend the limes coz then your drink will be sour instead of refreshing! This is also best served fresh, as in from the blender, sieve it and add lots of ice cubes and serve!

    1. W/Salaam, because this lemonade is made with fresh lemons, peels and all. It should be served immediately as recommended in the recipe. The longer it sits the more bitter it gets. When served fresh it is out of this world awesome.

  3. assalaamualaikum sisters.. maashaAllaah tried this for iftaar and it was indeed refreshing!! Jazaakillaah khair fauzia. however a humble tasty tip for a twist of a mint flavor would be to add 4/5 fresh mint leaves !!
Also was just curious, anyone know the health benefits of drinking lime/lemon ade??

    1. It adds to the flavour and gives the drink and nice colour and froth. You can leave it out if you like.

    1. Yes you can, but since lemons are bigger and juicier than limes, reduce the amount used to just 1 or half lemon depending on size.
