Servings : Serves 8
Decadent and luxurious, yet super easy to whip up!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter, at room temperature (113gm)
- 1/2 cup sugar (about 100gm) (I then reduced about 3 tbsp. from it coz knew I was going to serve this with ice cream and didn't want the sweetness to go overboard)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose/plain flour (60gm)
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa (40gm)
- 4 tbsp. warm milk
- pinch of salt
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. vanilla essence
Instructions
Heat the butter in a big bowl until melted. Whilst still SLIGHTLY warm, add the sugar and using an electric mixer, beat together thoroughly (about 5-10 minutes). Then sieve the cocoa powder into this butter/sugar mixture and again, beat until creamy. Add the vanilla and beat it some more. Now add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition to make sure it’s well incorporated.
Remove the electric beater and slowly sieve the flour, baking powder and salt into the bowl a little at a time, mixing with a spatula or wooden spoon. Alternate with adding the warm milk as well and stir. Once everything is JUST incorporated (DO NOT OVER-MIX), pour the brownie batter into a greased 8×8 inch pan. (You can sprinkle some chocolate chips or nuts on top or stir them into the batter if you like, I left mine plain and simple)
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 170C for 25-30 mins. Do not over-bake, a toothpick stuck into the brownies should come out slightly moist, not completely dry. So best to start checking on them at about 20 mins and then give them extra time if need be. Serve warm or cooled, with a big fat dollop of vanilla ice-cream and decorate with some brownie crumbs for a cute look.
Enjoy!!
cnt we make it with oil?

hello, please tell me the difference between these, i always get confused with, Baking Soda/Baking Powder, and all purpose flour/Self Raising flour, what is the difference? beacause in the market these are available with two different names..
here in Brownies recipe can i use self raising flour instead of all purpose flour as you mentioned?
Hi, please refer to these notes: http://www.fauziaskitchenfun.com/how-to-test-baking-powder-and-baking-soda-for-freshness/
http://www.fauziaskitchenfun.com/how-to-make-cake-flour-self-rising-flour/
Do not use SR flour for these brownies as that flour has baking powder in it which will be too much for this recipe.
Hi, this link just tell us how to test baking poder and baking soda, i want to know the difference between both, like in some cakes or recipes we use baking powder and in some we use baking soda, why? there must be a difference, like i got the difference of all purpose flour and self raising flour, as your link explained, self raising flour has baking powder and pinch of salt already into it. So please explain the difference of b. powder and b. soda too. Thanks!!
Hi, please check on google for the technical difference, I really cannot explain it as it is a bit complicated. The two are very different things and cannot be interchanged, that is as far as I can tell. 🙂
hmm thanks anyway 😉
Tried it out and it was perfect as usual! Thanks.
Salaams, I really am grateful for this page, may you be rewarded for all your effort. I wanted to know how well these brownies store. Would it be okay of I made them 3 days in advance of serving them. JazakAllah
W/Salaam, thank you! Normally brownies are best served fresh, but you can make them ahead and then wrap them well and refrigerate. Warm them before serving.
Salaams, can i use cocoa and semi-sweet chocolate? jazakAllah khair.
W/Salaam, yes you can.
hi fauzia can we use sweetend cocca if we dont have the unsweetened one??
Hi, yes you can although the colour will not be as dark and the sweetness might be slightly more.

W/Salaam, yes you can although it will not taste as good as with butter.
Hi Fauzia,
Hi Fauzia,

Jazakallah for another great recipe 🙂
Hi,it should be ok but just
Hi,it should be ok but just reduce some of the sugar from the recipe as drinking chocolate is usually sweetened.
