Kababs in Blankets … hot from the oven and delicious! These are basically kababs wrapped in a thin layer of dough which is then baked. One can even use cooked sausages in place of the kababs for this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 tbsp. oil
- 1/2 tsp. instant yeast
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp sugar
- milk and water mixed half and half (warmed)
Instructions
Mix the dry ingredients, add the oil. Heat the milk and water slightly and add it gradually to the flour, stirring gently. Once the dough starts to hold together, remove on a floured surface and knead thoroughly until soft and well kneaded.
Form the dough into a ball and apply a little oil with your hands all over it. Put in an airtight container and set aside until the dough rises to double its original size. This should take about half an hour to 40 mins depending on climate and the yeast you're using.
Roll small pieces of dough into thin flat squares and cover the kababs like blankets making sure the part that seals together stays under the kabab, you can snip off the excess with a pair of kitchen scissors to give it a smooth finish…then place on an oiled tray. Let these stay for about another half an hour before baking for a second rise. You can apply some egg yolk on top right before baking them to make the color nicer. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 C until golden on top.
Any type of kabab or sausage works fine, although I prefer fried kababs for this type of dish.
HERE'S my fried kabab recipe.
Enjoy! 🙂

Hi, sounds like an issue with the oven heating, does your oven have separate settings for a top grill? If so then turn it on during the last few minutes for even colouring from the top.

W/Salaam, it may not work as well because this is a soft dough and for date bars you need more of a crispier biscuit-type dough.
