A soft, moist and flavourful cake that is incredibly easy to prepare. For a chocolate version, click HERE.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 3-4 ripe bananas
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 1 cup sugar (can reduce to 3/4 cup for a slightly less sweet bread)
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla essence
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- pinch of salt
Instructions
Pre-heat oven to 175 C.
Using a wooden spoon, mix melted butter into the mashed bananas in a large mixing bowl. Mix in sugar, egg and vanilla. Sprinkle baking soda and salt over the mixture and stir them in. Add flour last and mix until JUST incorporated. Do not over-mix.
Pour into buttered pan and bake for about 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Hi, thank you! No the two cannot be interchanged. Maybe you know baking soda as bicarbonate of soda? Or mithi soda? It should be easily available.
Salam fauzia, i followed the instructions but my bread was no way near as nice as yours…I baked for 1 hour and it turned black from outside and inside..Looked horrible but tasted okay..i dont know what went wrong 🙁
W/Salaam, that is strange, it’s never happened to me or anyone who’s sent in their tried and tested pics on FB. Hmm. Did you set the temperature to the right mark? And was the cake on the middle rack of the oven?

Has to be melted completely to liquid then cooled.

Yes AP flour is plain flour and no there was no need for SR flour. Did you use the baking soda as directed in the recipe? And was it a fresh batch?
Thanks. Yes, I did use baking soda or as we call it bicarbonate of soda, and no it wasn’t a fresh batch. Will buy fresh and try again. It tasted very nice though. This is definitely a favourite for us.

Can we use ghee instead of butter?n how much?
Have not tried with ghee but it should be ok, use the same amount.

Assalamu alaikum wb. Fauzia, I would like to substitute honey for the sugar for health reasons. I also almost always use wholewheat flour in my kitchen. I love banana bread so what should I do differently if i make these substitutions? Shukran and may Almighty ALLAH always bless you and yours, ameen.
