These babies are soooo rich and filling. And they smell amazing when they're baking.

4 cups
all-purpose flour
1 tbsp.
3 tbsp.
1 cup
warm water
1 cup
3 tbsp.
vegetable oil
1 1/2 tsp.

In a large mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup flour, the yeast, the honey and the warm water. Stir well and let sit for 10 minutes, until slightly foamy.

Stir in yogurt, vegetable oil, salt and 2 cups of the remaining flour. Gradually stir in more flour until you have a soft dough that sticks together pulls away from the sides of the bowl.

Turn out dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead, adding additional flour if necessary to prevent sticking, until dough is smooth and elastic, or about 5 minutes. Place in a lightly greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Preheat oven to 180 C. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Turn risen dough out of bowl and onto a lightly floured surface. Gently deflate, pressing into a rectangle. Divide dough into 10 even pieces with a board scraper or a pizza cutter. Shape each piece into a round roll. Place on prepared baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough.

Once all rolls have been formed, press down firmly on each one to flatten. Cover with a clean dish towel and let rise for 25 minutes. Make slits on the top with a sharp knife (purely decorative so it's not a must to do this)

Bake for about 20 minutes, until rolls are deep golden on the top and the bottom.

Cool on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container.  Enjoy!

Asalam alaykum fauzia,if i may ask,how do you shape the buns into a round ball?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, simply cut a piece of dough and gather it to form a round shape using your hands.

i tried but turn so hard

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Strange, these turn out very soft normally. Did you over-bake them by any chance? What temp and duration of baking did you use? And did you knead the dough well?

these looks so nice.everything i try of ur recipes just comes out sooo perfect.thank u sooo much for sharing.
i will try these breads as well.

Assalam aleikum do you use egg wash or egg yolk for glazing??

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, egg wash (egg yolk mixed with a tsp of milk).

hi fauzia...
i love these buns and i m gonna try it today inshallah...

AA dear, how r u? when i use egg for brushing before baking\, sometimes the baked stuff smells of eggs, how can i avoid this?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, try using very fresh eggs. Use the yolk only and you can add 1 tsp milk to it. Mix it well then brush a LIGHT coating on the bread.

dear fauzia,

can you plz share recipe of 'bread pudding'? thanks you. i enjoy all your recipes.

slms how do u eat these rolls i mean with a curry or wth tea.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, either. :)

i made this 2dy and it tasted well. But the bottem side was burnt.. I dint hav baking sheets at home so i kept them after greasing the tray.. Is that the reason?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Sounds like either the bottom heat is too high or the tray is too close to the bottom heat. Try reducing the lower heat or raising the tray one notch higher in the oven.

can i omit honey ?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Yes you can.

hi fauzia,

my family loves your bread recipes, thank you.

I have not yet tried this recipe but wanted to know if the yeast you mentioned in this recipe is instant yeast?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi and thank you, yes it is Instant Yeast.

Can I use wheat flour as its more healthy?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Yes you can, although mixing some wheat flour with plain flour will give better/softer results. Full wheat flour is healthier of course but the result will be a bit dense.

How many buns does this recipe make? I made your Zebra cake on my parents' anniversary. It was a huge hit. :)

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Thanks! 10 rolls (it's mentioned on the top right under the pic and in the recipe instructions too. :)

Hey Fauzia,
would I be able to use yoghurt that has been frozen? i wasn't sure... :S I don't want to try it and then have the rolls flop, so i was just wondering

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, yes as long as the yoghurt is at room temperature when you make the dough (thaw it) and it should not taste sharp as most yoghurts tend to develop a tangy flavour when they stay long before being consumed.

ok thanks a bunch :)

Hey fauzia,
I made these rolls tonight for dinner and they turned out wonderfully! I am definitely going to be using this recipe again! :)

pls clarify, the yogurt used..can it be flavoured or just the normal 'maziwa lala'?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, plain maziwa lala is fine.

Hello,,,can I bake it by using charcoal stove?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, yes that is fine.

Can you tell me how much one cup yoghurt measures in ml or gm pls?.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

assalm o allikom thanks for all delious recipes. i want to ask i have tried homemade bread many times but it does not turn like market or sometime yeast smell is strong and it doesnt get golden color from top . so can i make bread with same recipe of yoghurt bread rolls must reply i need your help coz u are only 1 who can help me pls thanks

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, yes you can.

Ur recipe is osm
Thanks for sharing

Ur site is amazing.
If I don't want to use salt in this recipe ? Or want to reduce it? I m preparing it for heart patients.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Thanks, yes you can reduce the salt to just a pinch or so. If you want to leave it out entirely that's ok too but the bread will taste a little bit bland without it.

lubna mussa's picture

I would like to ask, do you space out the rolls on the tray, or do you keep them next to eachother?
Wasnt mentioned on your instructions!
Can i use this recipe to make a loaf, and if possible, do i cook it for the same amount of time?
Hope to hear back..

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam. Yes space them out..as with all yeast breads the dough will expand. If you want them to join then you can make the gap a bit smaller between the rolls. And yes you can make a big loaf out of the recipe.

Hi there dear fauzia,
did u apply egg wash to ur yoghurt rolls

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, yes I did but I also brushed them with a tiny bit of butter when they got out of the oven.

How fauzia I tried this put but they tasted yummm but didn't ride up that much like urs....and they weren't so deep color like urs could u tell me y

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Your oven heating was not consistent from the top side of the oven. Make sure you check that or if your oven has a grill then turn that on.

Hi y isn't my comment been put up
