Serves 4-5

The most tender, most delicious fillet steak cuts, and my hubby's absolute favourite meal. I normally serve it with a pepper steak sauce which adds amazing flavour and spice to the meal. Our favourite 'special weekend' dinner!! :)

Ingredients for Marinade
1 kg
fillet steak, cut into slices (get the tenderest cuts of meat)
- Make small cuts on the fillet slices. Make a paste of the ingredients below and rub on both sides of the steak. Cover & refrigerate for 4 hrs to overnight
1 tbsp.
ginger paste
1 tbsp.
garlic paste
juice of 1 lemon
2 tbsp.
2 tsp.
red chilli powder
1 tbsp.
roughly crushed black pepper
1 tsp.
2 tbsp.
melted butter
1/2 tsp.
cumin powder
Ingredients for Pepper Sauce
onion, chopped fine
2 tbsp.
1 tsp.
splash of soya sauce or any steak sauce
(like A1, Worcestershire, HP sauce..etc.)
1 tsp.
corn flour mixed in a bit of water to form a paste
(you can use the stock remaining from boiling steak)
salt to taste
2 tbsp.
1 tbsp.
crushed black pepper

For the Steak

Mix everything into a paste, then apply on the steak slices on both sides. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

Put the steak in a pressure cooker with 1 cup of water and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until tender. Remove and set aside. Heat 2 tbsp. of butter on a frying pan, then fry the steak on both sides just to give it a nice color.

If any water remained after boiling the steak, set it aside to be used in the sauce.

For the Sauce

Heat the butter in the same pan as you fried the steak, fry the onions until almost golden. Add the vinegar and scrape any meat stuck on the pan. Add the water and salt, simmer together for a while. Add the corn flour and stir until slightly thickened, then finally add the cream. Mix together, add the black pepper, splash of soya sauce or any steak sauce, adjust salt and your sauce is ready to serve

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Tendercuts like fillet work for this recipe.

I am making this recipe now with your baked baby potatoes, InshaAllah will let you know how it turns out, its looking good so far.

My husband luv steaks.I always thought that it would be very difficult to make but this recipe is really simple ,i will try this weekend ISHALLAH. Thx Fauzia

I tried this recipie last night. My husband loved it. Jazakallah fauzia!

Use fresh/cooking cream, otherwise you can dilute heavy cream with some milk and use that instead.

What kind of cream can i use, heavy cream or half and half or sour?

Salaams. Can I use a slow cooker or the oven to cook the steaks? Or does it have to be a pressure cooker? If so, how long should it be cooked for? Thanks :)

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, you can use a slow cooker or oven, although pressure cooker retains moisture in the meat giving a more succulent steak.

Asalam aleykum fauzia, am a huge fan of steaks n so is ma hubby, bt used 2make it differently n I would like to try ur can i use rump steak for this recipe and do I have to boil it like da other fillets..thnx

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, rump steak is a bit tougher than fillet. So yes you would need to boil it.

Thnx 4ur reply fauzia bt wen rump steak is cut into thinly sliced fillets I think bcmes soft just by grillin.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Wonderful, then you can omit the boiling if they are thinly cut. :)

Assalamu aleykum, Shukran for all your goodwork and all the help, you turned someone of us to be thinkers of what im going to cook 2nite, instead of what im going to order tonite or which restaurant to go dine!
i have one question could you please tell me which butter you talk about in most of the meals, is it the baking butter or the "Ghee butter" especially in meats and chicken? thankyou dear...

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, thank you. I normally always use the baking/breakfast butter.

Assalam olikum ,i have just made your steak recipe and it was a hit with all the family, thank you very much for giving us easy to follow recipe's.may Allah give u good health and strength to contiune with the good work Ameen.I never remember to take a pic,i have made some of yr other recipe as well thank you again.

Hie! I tried this and it turned out very very good. Planning to do this for a friends gathering. Can u plz tell how many times shall I multiply ur given quantity for 26 ppl?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi and thanks!! Normally this serves 4-5 people. So depending on what else you make on the side, I think 5 kg is safe. Do it in batches to make sure the results are consistent. :)

alezeh raza's picture

how will this taste if i pour white sauce over it?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Should be ok.

Tried and turned out so well...thanks for sharing hubby lovedddd the dish

Asalaamualeikum Fauzia.
I stumbled upon your website and found your recipies to be very easy and helpful. I tried this nyama recipe last week and it was absolutely fantastic. I must admit I was a bit skeptical about the masalas when boiling, and once i boiled and tasted it didnt taste very good but when I made the sauce and poured it over the steak and served with fried, it was so yummy. Thank you sooo much. We're fasting today, so once again I'm browsing to see something special for iftari and for Idd tomorrow. Shukhran.

Salaam, I just wanted to ask u exactly what kind of meat is this. We tend to eat lamb here and not beef, so I wanted to ask u what shud i ask the butcher for. Also, is it white or brown vinegar u used in this recipe. Thanks.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, for lamb any good clean boneless cut will be good because lamb tends to be more tender than beef. Any vinegar will work here. :)

Salaams sister I just wanted to say that I love cooking this dish for my family, it is an amazing dish and we all love it. well done and keep up the good work. :)

I wanted to ask do I need to cut a standard beef steak further into thin slices? N if yes then in how many approximately. ...n also I dont have a pressure cooker....can I cook it in a simple pot n if yes then procedure will b same or a lil bit different?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Am not sure I understand what you mean by how many approximately. Is your steak presliced? It just needs to be in slices of about half inch thickness. And yes you can cook in an open pot. Keep the heat on medium to low.

Finger licking

Hi. If im boiling normal as i dont have a pressure cooker, how much water do i put n how long do i boil for? Also am i boiling with the marinade? Reply soon so can make tonight. Thanks.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, start off with a quarter cup of water plus the marinade. Then top up with more if needed. :)

Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipes! If I make this with lamb meat, do I still need to do the boiling stage and if so for how long in a pan on the cooker as I don't have a pressure cooker. Thanks!

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, yes just preboil the meat first until tender on low heat at a gentle simmer.

Can u plz tell me alternate to pressure cooker
If i simply boil it in pot

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Please read the comment above yours.

Can u make the steak sauce a day before

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture
