These cute little cakes are so easy to prepare and take no time at all to whip up. They are perfect for kids' lunch boxes or as a tasty evening treat. In fact, these could actually work nicely in place of waffles or doughnuts or pancakes for those occasional extra special breakfasts.

1/2 cup
1 tbsp.
custard powder OR cornflour
1 tsp.
baking powder
1/4 tsp.
1/4 cup
1/4 cup
caster/grinded sugar
1 tsp.
vanilla essence
2 tbsp.

Sieve the flour with the custard powder or cornflour, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In a bowl, add the butter and sugar, whisk until smooth, then add the egg and beat well. Next add the vanilla and mix it in. Add half the flour mixture and gently fold it in, then add the milk and mix. Finally add the remaining half of the flour mixture and combine until the batter is smooth.

Brush butter or oil on both inner sides (top and bottom) of the sandwich maker, then close it and turn it on to allow it to preheat it for about 3 minutes. Once hot, open it and spoon the cake batter in each well until full. Then close and bake your sandwich cakes for about 3 minutes, after which you can open and check to see if they are done. They will turn a golden brown when ready, and when you cut into them they will have a light and fluffy texture.

Remove them on to a plate and dust them with icing sugar, or you could coat them with chocolate, honey or nutella. Have them warm!

Enjoy! :)

I tried this recipe today.. however, the taste was a little sour.. Is it supposed to be that way, or did I go wrong somewhere?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, no there is nothing in the ingredients that would make them sour. Please check your ingredients if anything might have been off. Also test your baking powder, maybe it is old.

Hai fauzia, can we substitute vegetable oil instead of butter in this recipe. If yes, how much we have to use

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, I've never tried this with oil, but you can give it a try. Same amount as the butter.

Salams!this is one of my all time favorites.loved it when I was a kid and I still do.was hunting for this recipe from a very looooooong time.just one question, can I omit egg and make these?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, thank you. Try using one of my two eggless cake recipes instead of this one and you can prepare them the same way in the sandwich maker.

I do baking. I'll add this to my list . It is easy to do . I'll try to prepare this for my kids, they will surely love this. Thanks a lot

super amazing, super quick, soft and yummy. just one query can i make it in chocolate flavor? and what proportion?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Thanks! Yes you can substitute about 1 and a half to 2 tbsp of the flour with cocoa powder.

This seems v interesting
Gonna try it.... :-)

Have to use flour or maida??,

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

I do not understand your question.

Can I bake this mixture. If yes, please tell me the temperature and other relevant details

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, yes you can bake as this is essentially a cake batter. Around 180 C and the time depends on the size of cake/cupcakes you plan on making.

If I want to bake in a cake pan or not in cupcakes, this will depend on the size of the pan. Can u please give me some hint?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, maybe 5 or 6 cupcakes.

Asalaam o alaikum Fauzia! Is it possible we can make this batter a day before so we just have to bake them in the morning? Thank you

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, yes you can do the mix the night before just make sure to keep it covered and then get it out of the fridge at least half an hour before you need to start making the cakes so the batter isn't too cold.

These were good and so quick and convenient to make! Turned out soft and fluffy! :)
Only thing was I felt they lacked in sweetness.. Will add more sugar next time iA

Any more sandwich-maker recipes? Can we make omelette in them too (lol)?

Asalamwalaykum! Can you use his recipe in cupcake maker?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, I have not tried but it should be fine. Give it a try with a small amount and see how the results are.
