This Month's Tips:  Using the Right Onion

 

Sweet Onion

These onions are best for frying.  Use for: onion rings, gratin & roasted vegetables.

 

Red Onion

These onions are best for eating raw.  Use for:  guacamole, salads, sandwiches and pickled onions.

 

Yellow Onion

These onions are best for all around cooking.  Use for: meat roast, sauces, soups, stews and meaty dishes.

         

White Onion

These onions are one of the most crunchiest with a sharp zing.  Use for: salsas, stir fry and chutneys.

 

Shallots

These onions are milder and more subtle.  Use for:  vinaigrettes, garnishes and casseroles.
