Serves 4-5

A nice change from the usual red curries, perfect with parathas or rice.

Ingredients for Green Mixture/Marinade
1 cup
chopped fresh coriander (with stems)
1 tbsp.
garlic paste
1 tbsp.
mint leaves
1 tbsp
fresh or coconut
green chillies
(to taste, I use about 4)
juice of 1 lemon
1/2 cup
Additional Ingredients
chicken, cut into 8-10 pieces
1 tsp.
ginger paste
1 tsp.
garlic paste
cardamom pods
1 tsp.
cumin seeds
1 tsp.
cumin powder
1 tsp.
coriander powder
onions, chopped
green chilli, slit
1 tsp.
ground black pepper
1/4 cup
coconut cream or fresh cream
1/4 cup

First, blend the coriander leaves, garlic paste, mint leaves, cream, green chillies and juice of 1 lemon to a smooth paste. Try to do this without adding any water. Once done, add the half cup of yoghurt and mix well, then add the chicken pieces and allow to marinate for about half an hour.

Next, heat the oil, add the cumin seeds and the cardamom pods, when they splutter, add the onions and fry until golden brown. Then add the ginger and garlic pastes, fry for a few seconds and add the chicken without the marinade. Cook on high heat for 5 minutes, then lower the heat, add the marinade, 1 tsp. salt and the coriander and cumin powders.

Cover and cook for about 10-15 minutes on low, then add the green chili and adjust water if needed. Once the chicken is about done, add in the cream and adjust salt and sprinkle the pepper. Simmer together on low heat for about 3 minutes, then turn off the heat.

Serve hot and Enjoy!

your receipes are really delicious. Specially for people like us who are abroad away from HOME and loved ones. Just want to ask what if we dont have oven is there any alternative for that.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Thank you Farhan! Please check our FB page on how to bake without an oven. :)

I have 1 query. In green chicken you said "add the chicken without the marinade." It means I will marinate chicken with green paste but while preparing I will add the chicken in oil without marinated paste? Please clarify...

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Yes Farhan. Marinade is added in later.

Jazakallah khair sister...........

WHEN TO MARINADE?????????????

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Please read through the recipe one more time, you seem to have missed a section where it says to MARINATE THE CHICKEN in the mixture made.

hey! looks yummy. is this for boneless chicken? or with bones? and what does 1 chicken mean here? how many grams is 1 chicken here? thanks a lot

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi, as you can probably make out from the pic, it is chicken WITH BONES. 1 chicken means ONE WHOLE CHICKEN that is then cut up into pieces. An average-sized chicken would be between 1kg-1.5kg.

may i knw wts coconut cream?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Thickened coconut milk.

W/Salaam, yes that is ok.

Hi fauzia sister, I want to make this recipe. But I cannot
Understand when to marinate the chicken. Can you
Please explain that?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

The top part of the recipe is the marination ingredients and method. Please read through it once more.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

It should be fine, depends on your personal taste. Add a tiny bit and see how the taste is, then you can add more if you like it.

Can I use cream of coconut or it will make it sweet? Pls reply soon

Can i use nestle cream instead of cocunut cream

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

If it is unsweetened yes you can.

can u plz explain da marinade thing ... Cuz in da frst part u tll dat v need to marinade da chciken fr half n hr..
N ltr u tll us '' add the CHICKEN WITOUT THE MARINADE Cook on high heat for 5 minutes, then lower the heat, ADD THE MARINADE'' dis iz rilli confusin! :/ do we need to marinade da chicken frst n den add it to da oil..?? :/ plz clarify!:(

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

Hi. Marinade is the mixture which coats the chicken during marination. First put the chicken ALONE into the oil so that it can get fried. THEN add the marinade.

Can this be made in advance 1-2 days??..will it maintain the green color??

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

The colour will not be as vivid but the flavour will be just fine.

When to add yoghurt?? Or should yoghurt be added to the blended paste?? Pls clarify thanks

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

As mentioned in the recipe, it is added with the marination.

As u see the pic even test so yummy when u eat. Thanx a lot. I cant wait to cook again

hii fauzia, I made this twice, but my masala wasn't green as shown in the pic.. white color curry was seen :(.. but yet it tasted so good that even made it on my birthday :)

how many servings?

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

One chicken would normally serve 4-5 people.

Salam. My meal did not end up with even a hint of green. It was white because of yogurt and cream. What could I have done wrong? I followed recipe exactly as written. Any help would be appreciated.

Fauzia's Kitchen Fun's picture

W/Salaam, that is strange. How much fresh coriander did you use? Because a whole cup of it should give more than a little hint of green at least. Did you use more cream/yoghurt by accident maybe?
